SENIOR FOOTBALL
Hard luck to the senior footballers who came up short against Arravale Rovers last Saturday evening in the final county championship group game. The first half was a tight low scoring affair but we went in ahead by 1-3 to 1-1 thanks in part to a Dean Carew goal. The game was still level midway through the second half until an Arravle goal gave them a 3 point leads. A further 3 goals were to be scored including a penalty from Paul Shanahan but unfortunately we weren’t able to stage a comeback and were defeated 4-9 to 2-8. This result sees us finish 3rd in the group and not qualify for the knockout stages but also clear from relegation danger. Thanks to the management team and the players for their efforts all year.
SENIOR HURLING
The games are coming thick and fast right now and last Tuesday night saw us face Drom & Inch in the first game of the 3 way playoff of the county championship. On a very wet evening in Templetouhy we stormed into an early lead, shooting the first 7 points of the game, including some fantastic scores considering the weather conditions. Drom, as expected, clawed their way back into the game, largely aided by frees from Seamus Callanan but we maintained a 4 point lead at half time. Drom continued their fine form in the second half, scoring 7 out of 8 points to take a 2 point lead with 3 minutes of normal time left.
It looked like they would ease to victory but points from Pat Shortt & Jack Butler deep into injury time levelled the game up. Further drama was to come as Pat Shortt pointed a free to put us back into the lead but Drom & Inch had the final say as a Johhny Ryan free tied the game up again and the referee blew the whistle shortly after to leave the final score 13 points apiece. We face a short turnaround to the next game as we face Thurles Sarsfields on Sunday at 5pm in Holycross. A victory here will see us into the knockout stages. Best of luck to all involved.
