We were defeated by Holycross-Ballycahill in our final County Hurling League Division 1 tie last Friday in Holycross. Holycross showed their intent by going 5 points up in the opening quarter, however Upperchurch rallied a little from there and only trailed by 3 at the break. Midway through the second half the deficit was still only 2 points but Holycross stretched their lead at the end to win 0-25 to 0-17. A week earlier we played out an 0-18 to 0-18 draw with Loughmore-Castleiney in the same competition.
MID JUNIOR HURLING LEAGUE
Our junior B team notched another win in Division 3 last night(Thursday) when they defeated Moycarkey-Borris 3-21 to 2-12 in their final group game. Our junior A side play their final Division 1 game tomorrow(Saturday) against Thurles Sarsfields in Toor Killinan at 7pm. They currently sit two points off the top of the table.
TIPPERARY INTERCOUNTY TEAMS
Well done to Paddy Phelan & the Tipperary Under 20 hurlers on claiming the Munster title with victory over Clare during the week. Commiserations to Sean Griffin and the Tipperary minor footballers who, despite a trojan effort, were beaten by Cork in extra-time in the Munster semi final last Monday. Sean had a fine individual game, notching four points from play. A week earlier the minor footballers had another hard-fought game in the Daryl Darcy Cup final when the game against Clare also went to extra time before Tipperary prevailed. Congratulations to Sean Griffin on this silverware and also to Paddy Lowry who is part of the backroom team.
RICE CUP
Congratulations to our 9 club members on the Thurles CBS panel who won the Rice Cup during the week.
