SENIOR FOOTBALL
Last weekend saw us overcome a second half fightback from Cahir to claim victory in the county championship. The first half was evenly balanced with the sides level 3 times in the opening quarter before Upperchurch pulled 2 ahead. Scores were shared again before Cahir got the final point of the half to leave 1 in it at the break. Upperchurch came flying out of the blocks in the second half, Conor Fahey finding the net within a minute and then 2 points from play by Niall Grant and Luke Shanahan gave us a 6 point advantage. Those were to be our final scores of the game as Cahir slowly edged their way back into the reckoning. With 3 minutes to go they had reduced the arrears to 1 point but Upperchurch held on for a 1-8 to 0-10 victory. Upperchurch and Cahir are now top of the group on two points each. Upperchurch play Ballina on Friday 30th at 6:45pm in Newport.
